World Extended Outlook - S. Hemisphere updated!
Updated for Tuesday May 22, 2018

-->(Southern Hemi forecast discussions are now up and running! Scroll down for all areas (S. America and NZ/ AUS)...
Email us at chris@snowforecast.com with any requests!

NEW ZEALAND -
--> (Instagram) "Snow continues now through Wednesday, a short break, then another storm moves in Thursday morning and lasts through Thursday night, with moderate to heavy snowfall expected, setting the resorts, especially south Island, up for some improving base conditions on the way to opening day. See the latest at snowforecast.com, with a custom weather discussion for New Zealand updated by us."

Today and Wednesday (22nd and 23rd) - (Posted last Wednesday the 16th--> - "Unsettled, and becoming colder through Wednesday... The Tuesday-Wednesday storm looks colder and could drop 200-300cm of snow above mainly 1,500m, but some snow accumulations to 1,000m as upper-level dynamics and moisture combine to deliver some good early season snowfall"). MORE DETAIL: After heavy snow through tonight (Tuesday night) for the south Island, lighter snow is expected for places like Cadrona and The Remarkables as we move into Wednesday, while low pressure is departing, with heavier snow (but less than  South Island) moving into the North Island resort areas like Tukino, and light snow showers, some clouds mixed with sun, and COLD air for the South Island on Wednesday through Wednesday night... with ANOTHER storm knocking at the door:

Thursday through Saturday (24th-26th) - (Posted last Wednesday the 16th--> "Mid and late next week (the 23rd -25th or so) we expect a big storm to move in, with heavy snowfalls to the South Island, and higher snow levels  but heavy snow also to the North Island."). MORE DETAIL: It is looking busy these few days into the weekend, with 2 storms, the first on Thursday and Friday sending mostly moderate snow totals of 15cm to the South Island, and lighter totals for the north. The second storm moving right in behind the first, on Saturday, with mostly light to moderate snowfalls to the South Island, and similar totals for the north Island. Snow will be clearing out on Saturday down south, and continued cloudy and snowy for North Island resorts on Saturday. The coldest day looks like Thursday, then slightly warmer Friday and Saturday.

Sunday and Monday (27-28th) - We expect to be between storms, with approaching low pressure, and increasing clouds on Monday.

NEW ZEALAND LONGER RANGE FORECAST - It looks like as we move into June we see a busy pattern with more days of snow and cold than sunny days (kicking off with a possible big storm June 1), piling up the snow for a good opening day base. June continues snowy to start with a good pattern of numerous upper-level waves. CM

CHILE/ ARGENTINA - Perspectiva General (Overview) - Wednesday and Thursday look ....
Friday through Sunday - ...

LONGER RANGE FORECAST (South America) - Mid-May and through the rest of the month, we are expecting the more dominant pattern to be unsettled, with colder storms affecting the region as the jet stream moves further north. Ski areas to the south of Santiago will see more frequent snowfall through this period. Either way winter is here and more frequent snowstorms are on the way! CM
