Part 2: Cold, snow across resort elevations of western Canada and the Northwest US this Thursday through Monday…
Featured Image

As a follow up on the last weather outlook for the southern Canadian Rocky Mountains and Northwest US including the areas of Revelstoke Mountain Resort and Kingfisher Heli in British Columbia (on track, see original story from Friday the 20th, here: ), and Bogus Basin in southern Idaho, I am updating this story here.

It is looking like Thursday and Friday 3,000 to 5,000 foot snow levels for top to bottom snowfall across Kingfisher Heli's area of operation, and just above base elevations at Revelstoke, Thursday and Friday. 3cm to 6cm (1-ish to 2+ inches) of snowfall are expected just above 3,000 feet, with 30+cm (a foot) of snow to 7,000 and 8,000 feet (just above 2,100m).

An unusually cold and southward-traveling low pressure system from the Gulf of Alaska drops into the Canadian Rocky Mountains including Revelstoke Mountain  Resort and Kingfisher Heli this Thursday and Friday, with low pressure then focusing on the Northwest US Saturday through Monday. The whole system should exit on Tuesday. I expect that Bogus Basin will see a dusting to maybe 1" of snow Sunday and Monday, and Monday into Tuesday we could see 2 to 4" of snow from top to bottom at Bogus Basin! Tahoe in California will also see some light snow, northern lake areas favored. Please see the charts below that I agree with:

Animation of 500mb ("steering" flow of storms), Thursday (26th) through next Tuesday (Oct 1), coldest storm for Bogus Basin with the top to bottom snowfall moves in Monday and Tuesday

Animation of precip potential (rain in green, snow in blue), Thursday (26th) through next Tuesday (Oct 1), coldest storm for Bogus Basin with the top to bottom snowfall moves in Monday and Tuesday

Monday morning low temperatures... brrr... pretty cold for September.

Monday high temperatures, 20's and 30's for the mountains north of Boise including Bogus Basin, and colder, in the teens Fahrenheit for the northern Rocky Mountains.

Tuesday morning COLD...

"Thursday and Friday 3,000 to 5,000 foot snow levels for top to bottom snowfall across Kingfisher Heli's area of operation, and just above base elevations at Revelstoke, Thursday and Friday. 3cm to 6cm (1-ish to 2+ inches) of snowfall are expected just above 3,000 feet, with 30+cm (a foot) of snow to 7,000 and 8,000 feet (just above 2,100m)"

"Monday into Tuesday we could see 2 to 4" of snow from top to bottom at Bogus Basin!"

On Sunday, as cold as 4f (!!!) at 10,000 feet for the northern Rocky Mountains (US) and southern British Columbia (Canada), and 15f at 10,000 feet across southern Idaho, plenty of cold to generate nice snowflakes...
