KingFisher Heli (BC) – 2019-2020 Winter Outlook – southern BC – British Columbia, Canada

First, an image that I partially agree with:

Southern Hemisphere areas, Australia and New Zealand, have seen a great winter, some snow where they usually don't see any, and other cold/ snowy anomalies.

Here in the northern Hemisphere, we have seen a short summer overall with even some lamenting a short growing season in the midwest US, Canada. Low pressure systems have been a bit relentless this August, and stronger than usual. Airmass source regions, based on these low pressure systems, are colder than usual. Sunspot activity is low to none, and the feeling is, early winter this year, long and sustained...

In short, I am expecting an early winter for many areas of the US and Canada, also Europe. We are now into a neutral phase of ENSO, and the above image depicts a typical pattern during a "neutral" winter. I agree with the "wetter" and colder" descriptions, for winter 2019-2020. I expect that we will see early cold and snow, with September showing up as cooler and wetter than average for the KingFisher Heli-ski areas of operation, and southern British Columbia . Storms should be regular, storms a bit relentless at times starting in November, and snowfall will exceed averages likely for every month. More detail is coming, but this is the preliminary outlook for winter 2019-2020. Meteorologist/ Chris Manly
