The following message is transmitted at the request of Flathead Avalanche
Center Hungry Horse MT.

...AVALANCHE WARNING ISSUED BY THE FLATHEAD AVALANCHE CENTER...

The Flathead Avalanche Center in Hungry Horse has issued a BACKCOUNTRY
AVALANCHE WARNING for the following areas:

NWS Missoula MT -
MTZ001 (MTZ001)...MTZ002 (MTZ002)

* WHAT...Very dangerous avalanche conditions are developing as a storm
brings rain, heavy snowfall, and strong winds to the forecast region.

* WHERE...The Whitefish, Apgar, Swan, and Flathead mountain ranges, and
portions of Glacier National Park (the McDonald Valley and peaks near Marias
Pass).

* WHEN...In effect from Sun 06:00 MST to Mon 06:00 MST.

* IMPACTS...Wet snow avalanches are likely below about 6000 feet. Above that
elevation, large to very large natural and triggered avalanches are likely;
these could involve 1 to 2 feet of new and drifted snow or break deeper in
the snowpack, on buried weak layers. Avalanches may run long distances, into
lower-angled terrain, valley floors, and snowmobile trails. Small slopes
like roadcuts and snow-covered roofs may be hazardous.

* PRECAUTIONARY / PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...Widespread and complex avalanche
hazards. Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON...

* WHAT...Flooding caused by rain and/or snowmelt and/or ice jam
  continues to be possible.

* WHERE...Portions of western Montana, including the following
  counties: Flathead, Lake, Lincoln, Sanders, Granite, Mineral,
  Missoula and Ravalli.

* WHEN...Through Monday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of creeks,
  streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and
  streams may rise out of their banks from ice jam releases.
  Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas, including
  basements and crawlspaces.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
  - An atmospheric river will bring a significant warm up along
    with widespread rain through Monday, February 24. High
    temperatures will reach into the 40s, with overnight
    temperatures staying above freezing, increasing area snowmelt
    and runoff and introducing the risk for ice jam releases.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action
should Flood Warnings be issued.

Prevent Roof & Gutter Issues: Clear gutters and downspouts to allow
proper drainage and reduce the risk of ice dams and leaks.

Remove snow from roofs where safely able to do so.

Prevent Water Ponding & Flooding: Move snow away from home
foundations and clear window wells, to ensure proper drainage.

Be Aware of Standing Water on Roads: Avoid driving through flooded
areas and be cautious of changing conditions.
